BEACH ACCESS

Access from PCH is off of Moss Street near Ocean Way.

There is a stairway at the end of Moss Street where it dead-ends.  The stairs are rather steep, but there is a landing part way down if you need to rest.

Sometimes it may be more convenient to drop your gear at the top of the stairs with your buddy and then go park.

The access is relatively easy leading down to a sandy stretch of beach below. Watch for sand on the concrete because it can make the walk a little slippery - Use those Hand-Rails!

Caution!!  Watch that last step, the sand washes away from the base of the stairs and sometimes that last step is a BIG ONE! (See picture Below Right)

Please be mindful of the neighbors - Stairway access is between private homes...nobody enjoys a rude awakening on the weekends - See "Diver Etiquette" Below under Parking.

THE DIVE SITE

Moss Cove is one of the most best dive sites in Laguna Beach, CA. Located just South of Wood's Cove.

Moss Cove offers two distinctive dive spots -

  • South-East or to your left from the stairway (Middle Picture at Right) - You'll find Scattered rocks and a series of Parallel reefs rising 20 feet from the sandy bottom.  Several with a sharp drop-offs, all interesting to explore.
  • South or to your right from the stairway (Bottom Picture at Right) - there are several "mini" reefs with lots of promise for exploration.  This area is generally shallower.

The cove is not as well protected as are some other Dive Spots in the area, so on some days the diving here will be a little more "Advanced" than others.  Caution should be observed when diving on the reef system closest to shore since, even on calm days, the surge can be very sudden and strong. When the weather is good however, this is a great spot to dive!

Moss Cove is monitored by the Laguna Beach life guards so make sure you have a buddy and a snorkel - they check.

PARKING
There is street parking, but it is limited.  You can park on Moss Street or on Ocean Way.  Parking is Free in most cases.

Sometimes it is more convenient to drop your gear at the top of the stairs (at bottom of Moss Street) with your buddy and then go find Parking on One of the Streets.

Either Way, Parking is limited - Especially on nice Weekend Days, so plan on arriving early for the best Parking Opportunities (Before 7:00 am).
